30-Day Declutter Challenge: The Kitchen
With all that goes on in the kitchen, it’s a great first place to start the 30-day declutter challenge!
Day 1: Out with the Old…Food, that is
I’m sure there are a few expired things in your pantry, fridge, and freezer that can be cleaned out. If you still are hanging on to the food you know you won’t eat unless you absolutely have to, consider donating it to a food bank. Then you can refill your pantry with foods you actually eat!
Day 2: Food Storage Containers
Are there still food storage containers that you don’t even have the lids for anymore in your cupboards? By simplifying your food storage containers down to just 1 or 2 different kinds, it will be much easier to store them and keep them organized.
Day 3: Cookware & Bakeware
This is the day to declutter your pots, pans, serving bowls, mixing bowls, baking dishes, and cooking utensils. Keep just what you need.
Day 4: Mugs & Glasses
Downsize your mugs, cups, and glasses. Those coffee mugs sure have a way of multiplying overnight, don’t they? Choose your favorites and just keep those.
Day 5: Appliances
Maybe you had high hopes for that air fryer, instant pot, or other kitchen gadget. Take out all of your kitchen appliances and gadgets so you can decide which ones truly need to stay.
30-Day Declutter Challenge: The Closet
The next section of your home to declutter in this 30-day declutter challenge is your bedroom closet. You probably have more items than simply clothes in there. If it is packed full, don’t freak out. You can always do one section of the closet, and then when you finish this challenge, do it again the next month and focus on a different section of your closet until you finish. It is entirely up to you!
Day 6: Shoes & Socks
Try on all of your pairs of shoes to make sure that they are still comfortable enough to keep. Maybe some aren’t broken in yet, have given you blisters, or were used more in a different season of life. Assess how many total pairs you have. Be realistic about how many you truly need and will honestly wear. Just keep those.
Day 7: Bottoms
This day is to declutter your skirts, shorts, pants, trousers, slacks, and similar types of clothing in your wardrobe.
Day 8: Tops
Now that we’ve decluttered the clothing for your bottom-half, we will tackle the tops today. If you have the time, try on all of your clothes to have a sort of “fashion show” to see how you look in all of your tops. Keep the favorites.
Day 9: Pajamas & Undergarments
Clean out your pajamas, sweats, robes, and undergarments. Check for holes or stains and general wear and tear. Are there some that are worn more than others? Let go of the ones you no longer need.
Day 10: Occasional Wear
Use this day to comb through your occasional wear items to see what you can declutter. Occasional wear items include athletic attire, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, formal wear, evening wear, interview suits, and other such items.
30-Day Declutter Challenge: The Living Room
It’s a room where your family may spend a lot of time, but have you recently decluttered this space? Days 11 – 15 are dedicated to decluttering the living room.
Day 11: Throw Pillows & Blankets
Check your throw blankets and pillows throughout your home. Have they seen better days? Do they need to be tossed or maybe just washed? Use this day to also comb through and declutter any magazines and newspapers.
Day 12: Coffee Table Items
Look at the items on your side tables and coffee table. Could they be simplified or stored elsewhere? Is it necessary to keep all of those items out in plain sight? Reduce the visual clutter and declutter the remote controls while you’re at it. If video games are played in your household, declutter the video game gear as well.

Day 13: Home Decor
As we live in our homes it’s natural to bring more items into our home to make it feel more, well, homey. However, some home decor can easily become clutter. Visual clutter that doesn’t serve a purpose and that no longer serves us in making our house feel homey. Maybe a wall full of home decorations could be repurposed into a family command center to serve us better. Consider if there’s any wall decor, knick-knacks, or other decorations that you could live without.
Day 14: Kids’ Toys
Our kids accumulate more toys than we ever thought possible. Most often, kids have so many toys they get overwhelmed and won’t play with any of them! See which ones your kids use frequently, and feel free to donate the rest! A Buy Nothing Facebook group in your area is another great way to offload clutter that’s still in good condition.

Day 15: Digital Clutter
In our technology-dependent lives, digital clutter accumulates daily. It can be overwhelming when we stop to think about it. But, we can make a dent in it by going through our photos, apps, email inbox, documents, and files on our phone to delete what we don’t need. Unfollow social media accounts and unsubscribe from emails that no longer serve you.

Day 16: Towels
Bathroom towels, washcloths, and rugs are a few textiles in your bathroom that can be decluttered. You may also want to take this day to assess your pool or beach towels as well.
Day 17: Travel Toiletries
I’m sure we all have sample-sized items from hotels, gift bags, or swag bags. If you have more than four, it’s probably best to regift, donate, or give them to a homeless shelter. Go through as many travel and sample items as you can. Keep your favorites to use for travel and donate the rest.
Day 18: Cosmetics & Nail Polish
Makeup does expire, so as you go through your makeup consider how long you’ve had each product. Eye makeup has the shortest lifespan at around 1-3 months depending on your use of it. Check your nail polish bottles for any that need to be tossed. Don’t forget to dispose of them responsibly.

Lotions, face masks, creams, serums, and sunscreens are all examples of the beauty and skincare products that you can declutter today.

Day 24: Books
Do you still have your old college textbooks? Chances are you will never read them again! It is okay to let go of books you know you won’t read again, no matter how good they are. Donating them will give someone else a chance to love it as much as you did! A public library is a good starting place for donating books.

Whether it’s large exercise equipment or small accessories, be honest with yourself about what workout supplies you truly use regularly.
30-Day Declutter Challenge: Storage
Day 26: Seasonal Decorations
Do you typically decorate for the holidays? If so, when was the last time that you cleaned out your stash of seasonal and holiday decorations? Declutter any lights that don’t work, broken decorations, and ones that you rarely use.

Day 28: Tools & Lawncare Equipment
Depending on what you keep in storage, it’s common for most people to own a toolbox or set of tools. Get rid of tools that are broken or not used often. Organize the nails, screws, and bolts so they can easily be found when you need them. Evaluate your lawn care equipment if you have some.
